LOCATION: From Pilgrim to Asylum
THE DUNSTABLE
PRIORY HOUSE
Originally a hostel for weary travellers and part of the
Augustinian Priory of St Peter. Undoubtedly one of the
houses best features is its awe-inspiring 13th century
vaulted cellar. The Priory was founded by Henry 1 in
1131 and was dissolved in 1540 by Henry VIII, luckily
the guest house was one of the few buildings which
survived. With extensive rebuilding after the
Reformation, the location has had a number of guises,
one of which was a private mental hospital.
From Pilgrims to Roundheads, the Priory House has been
witness to history most fascinating and we believe some
of them may well have stained the ether with their
spectral presences
Upon research is seems Dunstable is full of intriguing
ghost stories and the Priory House is no exception
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
With the knowledge that a ghost needs
history to exist, reports of auditory phenomena have
been heard in this ancient house. The disembodied sound
of a baby crying echoes across the first floor whilst
unexplainable footsteps tread loudly from behind the
walls. One witness, recalls the shade of a little girl,
another a phantom man in the basement. Could they be
connected to the pilgrims or reside from a more recent
time line?
