Death In Dagenham

After several successful events in 2011 we return to Valance House Museum. With its origins rooted deeply in the medieval period, this awe-inspiring and partially moated house now reflects Dagenham’s colourful history with artefact and exhibition, however, it seems many of its past residents still reputably inhabit the ancient manor house. Tales of death, murder and ghostly apparitions can be found just under the surface to the museums fascinating past. In fact, the more one researches the supernatural history, the more fascinating tales are uncovered. This location is certainly not one to miss.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
One thing to note with this location is that all the ghostly inhabitants are reputed to be friendly, so sorry horror fans, no ‘evil dark presences lurking in the corner’ at this location. Needless to say, there is a very interesting story recalling the murder of a former resident whose ghost is now witnessed by the moat, pointing to the spot where the dagger that killed her was thrown. Another unfortunate resident died of natural causes in one room and is often seen over the years. Interestingly, quite recently, an employee claims to have witnessed this same apparition. The house has just re-opened after major refurbishment and hardened paranormal fans will be interested to hear that unusual activity was reported by the workmen, as they knocked down walls, fuelling the theory that ‘energy is stored in matter’ As usual, LPS location researchers become very interested in locations, when we discover they suffer from regular apparitions and unexplainable physical phenomena. After meeting with the curator its clear the house has been witness to all these.

HISTORY

Dating back to the 13th Century, Valence House is the oldest manor house in the Dagenham. Once entirely surrounded by a moat, the house has been witness to the birth, life and death of countless illustrious families, a few of which it seems still linger in the ether. In 1937, the house was opened as a museum and provided locals with an inspiring reportage of parochial history. In 2010 the house re-opened with an ingenious old meets new twist on museum design. If you can’t make our night event, we certainly insist you try to visit by day.
